WEEKLY GROUP RIDE INFO

Each weekend, we'll lead supportive, group rides, with three pace groups based on experience and fitness level, to offer a challenge to every level. You'll be able to move from one pace group to another as your fitness improves or you want a little more of a challenge or need to take a break. We encourage our athletes to stick together, with the understanding that not everyone has pack riding experience (see requirements and caveats below).

Rides will take you off the lakefront bike path and explore the great riding along the Northshore suburbs, Barrington, and Buffalo Grove. Cue sheets and online maps will be provided so that you can repeat a route on your own.

Pace Group information

We anticipate offering the following Pace Groups, depending on the athletes that register for the program:

  • 17–21mph average

  • 15–18mph average

  • 13–16mph average

Each ride will begin with a course overview & instructions with the coach, before taking off with your pace group. Coach will work with each pace group separately, rotating to a different group each week. They will stay with the main group of riders and cannot chase down those who strike out on their own, or can't hold the stated pace. Pace range is an average ride speed (not a peak speed briefly flirted with on a downhill with a tailwind!).

Participation Requirements

  • Must possess a road bike. A road bike is light weight and makes riding easier and faster.

  • Must possess cycling shorts, helmet, 2 water bottles, flat repair kit.

  • Cycling shoes are strongly suggested.

  • Must be able to complete 25 mile ride, within the pacing range listed above.

TRAINING PLAN DETAILS

The program, designed by Coach Jordan Grauer, is progressive over the 20+ weeks and designed to build and maintain a level of fitness over the course of the cycling season. Intensity can be added or reduced at your discretion (and with a little advice from the coaches). This structure makes it ideal for those with a mid-season goal, an end of season goal, or someone looking for a season long group ride.

The detailed, daily training plan will be delivered online via FinalSurge. FinalSurge is the ultimate training log, designed to help motivated individuals achieve health, fitness and peak performance. You'll be able to log all of your training, goals, daily metrics and more, and see up to date statistics for all of it! You can access the plan via desktop or via mobile device, using the FinalSurge app.

WHAT IS ZWIFT?

Zwift is an online, interactive training and racing platform. Riding on a trainer drives your avatar around a virtual course. The harder you pedal, the faster you go. This online app/software makes it possible to ride together, as a group, even though we're online. See each other (via avatar) in the app, and chat with your teammates & coach via the in-app chat function.

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT

Use your own bike (road or tri bike recommended) + a stationary bike trainer.
