FAQ & POLICIES
What is the minimum amount of fitness level I will need before starting?
Recommended Minimum Fitness Level
AN IRONMAN is a challenging event. To make sure this is the right program for you, we have established some MINIMUM fitness requirements for participation. While we don’t require any previous experience in IRONMAN races, all participants should be comfortably able to complete the following prior to the start of the program:
Swim: While we do teach swim technique skills, due to the group setting, this program is not recommended for non-swimmers, or those with fears of deep water or putting your face in the water. We want this to be an enjoyable experience - not a fearful one!
70.3: 30 - 45 minutes (800 - 1200 YARDS) non-stop, easy swim (or with minimal rest)
140.6: 45 - 60 minutes (1200 - 1600 yards) non-stop, easy swim (or with minimal rest)
Bike:
70.3: 60 - 90 minutes non-stop, easy riding
140.3: 90 - 120 minutes non-stop, easy riding
Run:
70.3: 45 - 60 MINUTES EASY RUN OR RUN WALK
140.6: 90 - 120 MINUTES EASY RUN OR RUN WALK
If you do NOT meet the above recommended minimums, please contact us before signing up, so our coaches can help you make the SMART decision!
What is the minimum age for participation?
Athletes must be 18 years old to participate.
Can I participate with a stroller or pet?
For the safety of all participants, strollers & pets are NOT allowed at group training sessions.
Do you have customized training plans?
Our coaching staff can help you make simple changes to the training plans, to help accommodate your lifestyle and needs. If, however, you have more unique circumstances, such as a non-traditional work/life schedule, unique training needs or just want that extra bit of personal attention and customization to help get you where you want to be, we offer a Virtual 1:1 Personal Coaching option. This monthly service is available throughout the length of the season, with no minimum commitment.
For more details, Head to our Personal Coaching page or email us at info@chicagoendurancesports.com.
What is the weather cancellation policy for group training?
We like to prepare for all types of conditions (rain, snow, wind, etc.) as you never know what it might be on race day. However, if there are conditions that could potentially put the participants or staff in danger (such as lightning, extreme heat or extreme cold), we will cancel or postpone training. For complete details and weather alerts, visit HERE.
Are race entry fees included in registration?
Race entry fees & race registration are NOT included in training program fees and are the responsibility of the participant. However, we do have a special $10 discount code for all CES team members, which you’ll receive when you join the team!
